Machine Girl Tour
3D Motion Promotional Video
Project Brief:
Machine Girl 2024 Tour Promo is a 30-second motion piece created for my 3D Motion class. This project served as a promotional video for Machine Girl’s North America tour, consisting of 3D animation with After Effects keyframing and dynamic image cutouts. The assignment’s focus was on developing a motion identity that could spark interest, awareness, and engagement for a virtual or hybrid event, addressing the unique challenges posed by digital platforms. The goal was to create a vibrant, energetic promo that reflected Machine Girl’s high-octane sound and chaotic visual identity. Using Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, I developed a cohesive and dynamic motion system, leveraging the surreal and experimental aesthetic that defines Machine Girl’s music and visual presence.

Insights:
This project was both fun and challenging, marking my first real venture into 3D animation. Learning Cinema 4D was a steep learning curve, but it allowed me to experiment with creating intricate, layered visuals that were both engaging and impactful. Integrating 3D elements with After Effects helped me achieve a seamless blend of depth, texture, and movement; showcasing my ability to combine technical skills with conceptual creativity. I learned how to approach motion design with a focus on building a dynamic system that adapts to different formats and platforms. This included crafting visual transitions, pacing animations to match Machine Girl’s intense soundscapes, and ensuring the energy remained consistent across all deliverables.
Audience:
This motion piece is effective towards viewers unfamiliar with Machine Girl’s tour, aiming to inform and excite them about the concert taking place at the Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan. It’s designed to attract potential fans drawn to the promo’s high-energy visuals and sound, local attendees seeking unique events, and concert enthusiasts interested in the underground electronic scene. Additionally, the project engages social media viewers, using dynamic visuals to spark interest and drive attendance.
The Mess And Play Of Design
What I Learned:
This project pushed me out of my comfort zone, requiring me to learn and adapt to new tools like Cinema 4D. I developed skills in designing for both digital and hybrid formats. This experience highlighted the importance of flexibility in motion design, ensuring that every element, whether for a 30-second video or a small banner ad, aligned with the overall identity and messaging. Ultimately, I gained confidence in blending 3D animation with 2D elements and honed my ability to create high-impact visuals that connect across various digital platforms.
